The treatment

## Correcting SMP that has gone wrong
Bad scalp micropigmentation is a specific problem with a specific solution: reduce what is already there before you add anything new. Adding fresh pigment over a hairline set too low, over blurred dots, or over pigment that has shifted colour, only ever makes it more obvious. The clinic runs a Pico laser for tattoo removal, and the same machine lightens existing SMP so a proper redesign becomes possible.

### Hairlines set too low
The most common correction. The existing line is lightened with laser, then a new, age-appropriate hairline is designed and pigmented.

### Blurred or spread dots
Pigment placed too deep migrates under the skin. Laser reduces the smudge so a defined pattern can be rebuilt.

### Colour shift
Wrong pigment or excessive depth can leave work reading blue, grey or green. Laser lightening is the only realistic route back.

### Full removal
Some clients simply want the work gone rather than redesigned. That is a straightforward laser course, priced like tattoo removal.

What waiting costs you

## Why adding more pigment makes it worse
The instinct when SMP looks wrong is to have it 'blended in'. In most cases that means adding density around a mistake, which enlarges the area of bad work rather than fixing it.

### Chasing a low hairline
Building density behind a hairline that is too low only makes the whole cap darker and heavier. The line itself has to come up, and that means laser.

### Covering blurred dots
Fresh pigment over migrated pigment produces a solid, flat tone. The blur has to be reduced first for individual impressions to read as follicles again.

### Ignoring colour shift
Adding black over blue-toned work does not neutralise it. It deepens it, and the underlying tone still shows in daylight.

### Mistakes we see most often

- Returning to the practitioner who created the problem for a free 'top-up'.
- Booking laser and redesign in the same week with no healing gap.
- Expecting one laser session to clear years of over-saturated work.
- Assuming nothing can be done and growing hair out indefinitely.
- Choosing a corrector who does not have laser on site.
- Not asking to see healed correction work before committing.

The process

## How correction is carried out
Lighten first, heal, then redesign. Rushing any part of that is how corrections fail.

Start with the free consultation

- 01
### Free assessment
The existing work is reviewed in daylight: hairline position, dot definition, colour, depth and how much needs to go.

- 02
### The plan and the honest timeline
How many laser sessions are likely, the gaps between them, and what the redesign will involve. Corrections take months, not weeks.

- 03
### Pico laser lightening
Sessions spaced to allow the body to clear pigment between visits. The aim is usually reduction, not total removal.

- 04
### Healing gap
Time between the final laser session and new pigment so the skin has fully recovered before it is worked on again.

- 05
### Redesign and rebuild
A new hairline is mapped and approved, then density is rebuilt across the treatment sessions as with any fresh SMP.

The benefits

## Why correction is worth doing properly

Capability

### Laser and SMP under one roof
The lightening and the redesign are carried out by the same practitioner, so the plan holds together.

Realism

### An honest timeline up front
You are told at assessment how many sessions and how many months this is likely to take.

Design

### A hairline that suits you
The redesign follows the same mapping and approval process as any new hairline: drawn first, agreed in the mirror.

Choice

### Removal or redesign
Some clients want the work gone entirely. That is a valid outcome and is priced accordingly.

Discretion

### No judgement
Plenty of people arrive embarrassed about work done elsewhere. It is a technical problem, treated as one.

Value

### Laser priced by area
Laser work starts at £30 for a 1" × 1" area, so partial corrections stay affordable.

In detail

## SMP correction in detail

### How Pico laser lightens SMP
Pico laser delivers energy in extremely short pulses that shatter pigment particles into fragments small enough for the body to clear naturally.

SMP pigment generally responds well, though carbon-heavy and over-saturated work can take several sessions. Progress is judged after each visit rather than promised in advance.

### Reduction versus complete removal
Most corrections only need the existing work lightened enough for a new design to sit cleanly, which is faster and cheaper than clearing it entirely.

Complete removal is possible for clients who want no SMP at all, and is treated as a standard laser tattoo removal course.

- Partial lightening for redesign
- Hairline-only lightening
- Full removal course
- Spot correction of isolated patches

### Sessions and spacing
Laser sessions are spaced several weeks apart to let the immune system clear fragmented pigment. Crowding sessions does not speed the process up.

A realistic correction runs over several months. Anyone promising a fix in a fortnight is not describing how pigment clearance works.

### Redesigning after lightening
Once the skin has settled, the new hairline is mapped in pencil and approved before pigment, exactly as with a fresh treatment.

Density is then rebuilt in light passes, with tone matched to your skin and any residual pigment from the original work.

### What correction cannot fix
Deeply scarred skin from aggressive original work may hold texture that laser cannot address, and that is stated plainly at assessment.

Where residual pigment will always show slightly, the redesign is planned around it rather than pretending it will vanish.

### Aftercare through a correction
Laser aftercare, keeping the area clean, dry and out of direct sun, matters between every session, as pigment clearance depends on skin recovery.

Written aftercare is given at each stage, and Brett is reachable between appointments if anything looks unexpected.

Questions

## SMP correction questions, answered honestly
Anything not covered here, ask Brett directly on 07426 938460.

Can bad SMP be fixed?Usually, yes. The route is Pico laser lightening first, a healing gap, then a redesigned hairline and rebuilt density. Adding pigment over bad work makes it worse.

Can you raise a hairline that was set too low?Yes. The existing line is lightened with laser and a new, age-appropriate hairline is mapped and approved before any new pigment is placed.

How many laser sessions will I need?It depends on how much pigment was used and how deeply. Progress is judged after each session rather than promised up front; most corrections take several.

How long does a full correction take?Months rather than weeks. Laser sessions need weeks between them for the body to clear pigment, plus a healing gap before the redesign.

Can SMP be removed completely?Yes, as a standard laser removal course, for clients who want no SMP at all rather than a redesign.

Does laser on the scalp hurt?It is sharper than SMP; most people describe brief flicks of an elastic band. Sessions are short and breaks are taken as needed.

What does correction cost?Laser is priced by area from £30 per 1" × 1" per session, and the redesign is quoted separately once the extent of the work is clear. Assessment is free.

Why has my SMP turned blue or grey?Usually the wrong pigment or placement that was too deep. Laser lightening is the realistic route back; adding black over it deepens the tone rather than neutralising it.

Will there be scarring?Pico laser is used specifically because its short pulses reduce heat damage to surrounding skin. Any pre-existing scarring from the original work is discussed at assessment.

Do I need to have had the original work done with you?No. Most correction clients had their original SMP done elsewhere, and it is treated as a technical problem without judgement.
