Cumbria & the local area

Serving the whole of Cumbria from Workington

Cumbria Scalp Clinic is based at Unit 6, Kerry Park Industrial Estate, Workington, and treats clients from right across the county: the west coast towns, the Solway plain, the northern Lakes, the Eden Valley and the M6 corridor. Most of Cumbria sits within an hour's drive, with the A595 and A596 covering the coast, the A66 running east to Keswick and Penrith, and the M6 bringing in clients from Carlisle, Kendal and the south of the county.

Before this clinic opened, anyone in Cumbria who wanted specialist scalp micropigmentation had to travel to Manchester, Newcastle or Glasgow: a full day out, repeated for every session in the course. Having a dedicated scalp practice inside the county removes that entirely, which matters most when a treatment is built over several appointments plus a touch-up.

Appointments run 10am–8pm Monday to Friday and 10am–3pm on Saturdays, with Sundays by appointment. Clients travelling from further afield in the county usually take an evening or Saturday slot so a single trip covers the whole session without losing a working day.

Why us

Why clients across Cumbria choose this clinic

The clinic is the county's dedicated scalp practice, run by a single practitioner, and its reputation is built on results people see in person rather than on advertising.

  • Scalp work is the whole job

Not a tattoo studio adding SMP to a service list. Scalp micropigmentation uses different needles, depth, pigment and pattern from body tattooing, and it is what this clinic does every working day.

  • Certified and experienced

Over two years of hands-on scalp micropigmentation, certified at North West Scalp Clinic in Bolton, plus full qualification in Pico and YAG laser tattoo removal.

  • One practitioner, start to finish

Brett McMullen personally carries out every consultation and every session, so the person who designs your hairline is the person who completes it.

  • Free touch-up guarantee

Included within 8 weeks of your final SMP session, at no extra cost, for every full treatment: wherever in Cumbria you travel from.

Local conditions

County-wide factors affecting Cumbrian clients

Cumbria's geography, weather and working life create a recognisable set of issues, whichever part of the county you come from.

Distance to specialist treatment

Cumbria is a large, rural county with few specialist clinics. People put treatment off for years simply because the nearest option meant a motorway trip, and a course of SMP is several appointments, not one.

Wet, windy, changeable weather

Coastal wind, fell rainfall and cold, damp winters mean hats and hoods are worn most of the year. Constant friction at the hairline and temples makes recession look sharper than it is.

Outdoor and industrial working life

Farming, construction, engineering, offshore and site work all leave scalps exposed to sun, dust and hard hats. Condition is assessed before any pigment work begins.

Older housing stock

Much of Cumbria's housing is stone-built and pre-war, often cold and damp at the shoulders of the year, then dry with heating on. Both extremes leave scalps irritated and flaky.

Small communities, high visibility

In market towns and villages the same faces circulate constantly, so a sudden, over-defined hairline gets noticed. Density is built gradually so the change reads as natural.

The process

The same four steps, whether you travel from Cumbria or next door

Most people put treatment off because they do not know what happens or what it will cost. Four clear steps remove the guesswork, and the first one is free.

Start with the free consultation
  1. 01

    Free consultation

Half an hour, no cost and no pressure. We look at your scalp or tattoo in person, talk through what is realistic, agree the shade or the laser plan, and give you a straight answer on sessions and price.

  2. 02

    First session

The foundation layer. For scalp micropigmentation this is the lightest pass, deliberately conservative so the shape can be judged as it heals rather than committed to on day one.

  3. 03

    Build and refine

Further sessions spaced to let the skin settle, each one adding density and depth until the finish matches what we agreed at consultation.

  4. 04

    Free touch-up within 8 weeks

Pigment settles as it heals, so a complimentary touch-up within 8 weeks of your final SMP session is included as standard for every client.

In detail

Treatment for clients across Cumbria, in detail

What SMP does and does not do

Scalp micropigmentation creates the appearance of closely shaved hair by placing thousands of tiny pigment impressions in the upper layer of the scalp. It restores a defined hairline, adds the appearance of density across a thinning crown and disguises scarring, including hair transplant scars.

It does not grow hair, and it is not a substitute for a transplant if you want length. What it does deliver is a consistent, low-maintenance look with no product, no system and nothing to reapply: which suits Cumbria's outdoor, weather-exposed working life particularly well.

Sessions, healing and the touch-up

A full treatment is £1,200 and is built over a small number of sessions with healing time in between. The first pass is deliberately conservative so the shape can be judged as it settles, with later passes adding depth and density. Density work on thinning hair is £200 per session.

The free touch-up within 8 weeks of your final session is included as standard. Pigment settles as it heals, and that final visit is where the finish is perfected rather than simply signed off.

Pico laser tattoo removal county-wide

Pico laser fragments tattoo pigment with ultra-short pulses so the body clears it naturally, covering a wider colour range than older systems and generally needing fewer sessions than Q-switched removal. It is also used to lighten or remove scalp micropigmentation applied elsewhere that a client is no longer happy with.

Prices start from £30 for a one-inch square, increasing by £10 per additional inch, and every course begins with a free consultation. Sessions sit several weeks apart, which works well when you are travelling in from across the county.

Coverage, travel and where to start

The clinic serves Workington, Carlisle, Whitehaven, Maryport, Cockermouth, Penrith, Keswick and Wigton, plus Egremont, Silloth, Aspatria, Seaton, Distington, Bassenthwaite and the surrounding villages. If your town is not named, it is almost certainly still within the catchment: call and ask.

Start with the free consultation. Half an hour, no cost, an honest assessment of what SMP or laser removal will achieve for you, and a firm price before you commit to anything.
