The treatment
A consultation built around your circumstances
Medical hair loss is not the same as pattern baldness, and it should not be assessed as though it were. Alopecia areata comes and goes in patches; totalis and universalis are complete and stable; treatment-related loss may recover. Each of those calls for a different conversation about whether, and when, scalp micropigmentation is appropriate. This appointment exists to have that conversation properly, at no cost and with no obligation.
Alopecia areata
Patchy, often unpredictable loss. Whether SMP suits it depends on how active and how stable the pattern currently is.
Alopecia totalis and universalis
Complete and stable loss. SMP can recreate a full shaved-head appearance including a designed hairline.
Treatment-related loss
Loss following medical treatment may recover. The advice is usually to wait and reassess rather than treat early.
Traction and scarring alopecia
Assessed individually, since scarred follicles behave differently and the surrounding density dictates what is achievable.
What waiting costs you
Why the wrong advice does real damage
People living with alopecia are a soft target for anyone selling a cure. The cost of bad advice here is not just money; it is treating an unstable scalp, or being told something will work when it will not.
Treating active, unstable loss
If patches are still appearing and regrowing, pigment placed today may sit against completely different hair in six months.
Being promised regrowth
Scalp micropigmentation is a cosmetic treatment. It does not regrow hair and nobody should tell you otherwise.
Rushed, public consultations
A conversation about medical hair loss should not happen across a salon floor with other clients listening.
Mistakes we see most often
Booking treatment during an active flare rather than waiting for stability.
Believing any cosmetic treatment can reverse an autoimmune condition.
Not raising current medication or medical treatment at the consultation.
Choosing a practitioner who has never worked on alopecia clients.
Skipping the GP or dermatologist conversation where a diagnosis is unclear.
Assuming nothing can be done because previous advice was discouraging.
The process
How the consultation works
Private, unhurried and free. You leave with information, not an invoice.
Areata produces defined patches of loss that can regrow and recur unpredictably. Where the pattern is active, treating it means pigmenting areas that may grow back.
Where the pattern has been stable for a long period, SMP can be used to reduce the contrast between patches and surrounding hair, which is often what clients actually want.
Totalis and universalis
Complete, stable loss is in many ways the most predictable presentation for SMP, because nothing is going to change underneath the work.
A full shaved-head appearance can be recreated, including a designed, age-appropriate hairline and natural temple recession.
Full scalp coverage
Designed hairline and temples
Density matched to skin tone
Eyebrow work not offered at this clinic
Loss following medical treatment
Hair loss during or after medical treatment frequently recovers. The usual advice is to wait until the picture is clear rather than treat early.
If loss proves permanent and stable, the consultation can be revisited at any point; there is no charge for coming back.
Scarring and traction alopecia
Scarring alopecia destroys follicles, so the affected skin behaves like scar tissue and holds pigment less predictably. A test patch is usually recommended.
Traction loss from long-term tension is assessed on remaining density and whether the cause has been removed.
What this consultation is not
It is not a diagnosis. Brett is a scalp micropigmentation practitioner, not a clinician, and will say so plainly.
If you do not have a diagnosis or your loss is changing rapidly, the right first conversation is with your GP or a dermatologist, and you will be told that.

Does SMP work for alopecia?
It can, depending on the type and stability of your loss. Totalis and universalis are the most predictable; active areata is usually best left until the pattern settles.
Will scalp micropigmentation regrow my hair?
No. It is a cosmetic treatment that replicates the appearance of closely shaved hair. Anyone claiming a cosmetic treatment regrows hair is misleading you.
Can I have SMP while my alopecia is active?
Usually it is better to wait. If patches are still appearing and regrowing, pigment placed now may sit against a very different scalp in a few months.
Is the consultation really free?
Yes. No fee, no deposit, and nothing is booked on the day. You take the information away and decide in your own time.
Do you offer a diagnosis?
No. Brett is an SMP practitioner, not a clinician. Where a diagnosis is unclear or loss is changing quickly, you will be advised to see your GP or a dermatologist first.
Can you treat scarring alopecia?
Sometimes. Scarred skin holds pigment less predictably, so a test patch is normally recommended before committing to a full session.
Is the appointment private?
Yes. One client at a time in a private treatment room, not a chair on an open salon floor.
What about hair loss after medical treatment?
It often recovers, so the usual advice is to wait until the picture is settled. You are welcome to come back for a second free consultation at any point.
Do you treat women with alopecia?
Yes. Female presentations are assessed the same way, with density work applied softly where hair remains.
